Jeanne-Marie Bouvier de la Motte-Guyon (ordinarily known as Madame Guyon) (13 April 1648 – 9 June 1717) was a French spiritualist and one of the key backers of Quietism, in spite of the fact that she never called herself a Quietist. Quietism was viewed as shocking by the Roman Catholic Church, and she was detained from 1695 to 1703 in the wake of distributing a book on the subject, A Short and Easy Method of Prayer.
