Arnold is the child of Annemarie (née Wachter) and Johann Heinrich Arnold (1913-1982), and grandson of Eberhard Arnold (1883-1935), who helped to establish the Bruderhof Communities in 1920. Arnold was conceived in the Cotswolds, where the Bruderhof fled from Nazi Germany. He ventured out with his folks to Paraguay yet then moved to New York in 1954. He lived in Rifton, New York until his demise in 2017. On May 22, 1966, he wedded Verena Meier with whom he had eight youngsters. 

Arnold helped discovered Breaking the Cycle of Violence, a contention determination program in the wake of the Columbine secondary school massacre. Through the program he addressed school understudies and grown-ups about the significance of absolution in the US, United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Rwanda and other places.[8] He voyaged and talked broadly with Steven McDonald, a US cop who was shot and deadened, and who added to Arnold's book on pardoning.
